  • Businesses are now required to include their company registration number, place of registration, and registered office address on their web sites as a result of an update to the 1985 legislation. The information is already required on business letters and is being extended to websites, order forms and electronic documents.

Put simply you should include the following information on your website and email footers and order forms:

    • Company name, address and email address
    • Organisation name (if different from trading name, e.g. ABC trading as ABC Enterprises)
    • Registered office address and registration number, along with the place of registration (e.g. England and Wales) if the business is a company
    • VAT number, if applicable (even if the site is not an eCommerce site)
    • Any price information on the site should state whether prices include or exclude VAT and delivery charges.
    • Membership details of any professional body or trade association including registration number if applicable.

Many businesses already incorporate this information. If your details are not included update your web and email site now to avoid a fine. The details do not have to appear on every page of the web site so consider putting them in your “About section” or “Legal Information”. Make sure the information is legible.
